PROJECT DEVELOPMENT

It can be daunting when you have a project idea but don’t know how to make it a reality. Richard’s experience across a wide range of projects mean he can help you navigate the tricky process of developing your ideas, acting as a “critical friend”, talking through your ideas with you, suggesting alternative approaches you may not have been aware of and carrying out option appraisals. All of this is with the aim of making your project the best it can be.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Project management isn’t easy. Richard has experience of managing a huge variety of projects, from small scale individual projects up to multi-million pound programmes, with a track record of delivering projects under budget and to time. He has very strong project management skills with an ability to focus on the detail of projects, whilst not forgetting the overall aims and objectives. Richard is able to identify and deal with many potential problems in advance and when the unforeseen does arise resolve the issue quickly. Good communication remains at the heart of good project management and a key strength of Richard is his ability to form good working relationships with all stakeholders, taking time to understand the issues and priorities of all those involved, keeping them updated and engaged in the process.

MONITORING & EVALUATION

The monitoring and evaluation of any project is integral to good project management. It’s not an afterthought but a part of the project from the start. Richard is able put robust and meaningful evaluation frameworks in place, constantly evaluating his projects in an honest and constructive way, drawing on a wealth of techniques he has used throughout his career. Whether the emphasis is a direct focus on aspects such as project spend, number of participants and outputs delivered or on the less directly tangible such as outcomes and impacts. ARTS

Richard has been involved in the arts professionally for most of his career, whether it is commissioning pieces of public art, developing rural touring schemes, producing arts strategies or working with artists on specific projects. He understands the value and role of the arts. By extension the creative approach Richard takes can help maximise the dialogue between the artist and participant revealing hidden stories, explaining complex ideas in accessible ways and engaging with people who don’t normally engage in projects. Through delivering a range of arts projects he understands many of the key issues and is able to both commission the right artists for projects but also support them in delivering their ideas.

HERITAGE

Heritage is another key thread running through Richard’s career with a range of experiences in the regeneration of historic buildings, the protection of historic structures and in raising awareness of the historical significance of various areas. Most recently he has been particularly focused on supporting others in understanding their local heritage and working with them to give them the skills to develop and manage projects into the future. He has placed a particular emphasis on uncovering hidden stories, bringing them to a wider audience and making them relevant to a range of audiences and communities.
